What ChatGPT for Business is genuinely great at

Three use-cases where ChatGPT (or equivalents) beats a leased agent:

  1. One-off research and analysis. Need to understand a new market, a piece of legislation, an unfamiliar concept? ChatGPT is excellent. A leased agent isn’t built for this - the agent has a defined job.
  2. Drafting where you’ll heavily edit. If you’re writing a report, a pitch deck, an unusual email and want a starting draft to wrestle with, ChatGPT is your tool. The agent could do this too but it’s overkill.
  3. Knowledge work that’s not patterned. Anything where each task is genuinely different and benefits from interactive thinking. Asking an agent to do this is like asking a junior PA to do strategy - possible, but the wrong shape.

What a leased agent is genuinely great at

Three use-cases where a leased agent beats ChatGPT:

  1. Ongoing operational work. Email triage, payment matching, follow-up chasing, calendar management, weekly tidy-ups. Anything that runs on a daily cadence and benefits from accumulated context.
  2. Out-of-hours availability. ChatGPT only works when you open it. An agent works overnight and on weekends. Saturday-evening enquiry, Sunday-morning report - the agent has handled it before you wake up.
  3. Tasks where consistency matters more than brilliance. Every customer reply in your voice, every chaser at the right tone, every booking confirmation on the right template. Predictability is the value - ChatGPT’s session-based shape can’t deliver this without you driving every interaction.

The honest mixed answer

Most owner-operators we work with use both, and they shouldn’t feel mutually exclusive. ChatGPT for Business is the tool for thinking and one-off work. The leased agent is the worker for ongoing lanes.

A useful frame: ChatGPT is what you reach for when you’re at your desk and thinking. The agent is what runs when you’re not at your desk. They cover different time windows of your week.

Cost per outcome

The cost comparison only makes sense per-outcome. £20/month for ChatGPT vs £180/month for a leased agent looks like a 9× difference - but the agent does the inbox triage every morning whether you open it or not, drafts and sends replies, watches the bank feed, chases overdue accounts. ChatGPT does none of those things on its own. The right comparison is £180/month for the agent vs the hours of your own time ChatGPT would still leave you doing.
